Pipikaula Fried Rice

We’re taking fried rice to new heights that’ll have you yelling chee-hoo! Pipikaula adds a dash of ono into the mix of this classic local side dish.


Calabash Ingredients

  • Green onions

  • Pipikaula (Hawaiian-syle beef jerky)

  • Egg

  • Cooked white rice

  • Peas

  • Shredded carrots

  • Fried Rice Sauce

You’ll Also Need

  • Salt and pepper

  • Vegetable or other neutral-flavored oil

SUPPLIES

  • Large nonstick frying pan (12”)

  • Small bowl

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry produce. Keep all ingredients separate.

  2. Thinly slice green onion. Slice pipikaula. In a small bowl, whisk egg, set aside.

  3. In a large frying pan, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium-high heat.

  4. Sauté pipikaula for about 2 minutes, until slightly browned.

  5. Add cooked rice; fry until golden brown, about 5 minutes.

  6. Stir in the egg, half the green onions, peas, shredded carrots and Fried Rice Sauce.

  7. Stir constantly, about 2 minutes.

  8. Taste and season with salt and pepper as desired. Garnish with remaining green onions.
